The main difference between Upright and Recumbent is back support. If you have back pain when riding a normal bike or are rehabilitating and injury, a recumbent style bike may be your best fit. If you are looking to exercise on something more similar to your road bike, upright should be your choice. Upright bikes typically have more electronic programming and are more comfortable to ride than an indoor training cycle.
